Mets vs Braves
The New York Mets take on the Atlanta Braves in Turner Field. The Mets will send Oliver Perez on the mound to take on Derek Lowe. It will be the first time the Mets will take on the Braves since the outfield swap of Ryan Church and Jeff Fracoeur. Who will have the last laugh? We’ll have to watch the series and find out, and its a four game series so it should be a fun one.
Here’s the current standings in the National League East
Phillies have 48 wins, 38 losses and are leading the division.
Marlins have 46 wins, 44 losses, and 4 games behind.
Braves have 43 wins, 45 losses, and 6 games behind
Mets have 42 wins, 45 losses, and 6 and 1/2 games behind
Nationals have 26 wins, 61 losses, and 22 1/2 games behind*
*Do not count the Nationals out just yet, they still have time to make up to clinch this divison.
I hope the Mets can become more healthy and make a big run. Really, Carlos Delgado, and Jose Reyes have been missing in action too long. Carlos Beltran and John Maine have been hurt for a while now, and so is JJ Putz. The big key for the Mets to take the division, (any team in this divsion for that matter) is to go on a big winning streak of at least nine games. Whoever is the first team to do it, then they should feel more comfortable now and take this divison with ease, I bet the Phillies are feeling that way right now, comfortable, but anything can happen.
The Mets have the Braves and Nationals to worry about, I hope the Mets can take at least 3 out of 4 from the Braves and 2 out of 3 versus the Nationals at their ballpark and 2 out of 3 over the Houston Astros. After that, it’s a nice homestand against the Rockies (four game series) , Diamondbacks, and then Cardinals (again) only a two game series against the redbirds.
If Billy Wagner comes back and JJ Putz, there will be three closers for the Mets. Do the Mets stick with Francisco Rodriguez, or give the closers role to Billy Wagner or JJ Putz?
That is all, good luck for the sechond half of the season.
The Mets’ dreadful sixth inning at Citizens Bank Park
With the Philadelphia Phillies not doing that great at their home ball park, you would think the Mets have an easy time playing there. Not really, Jaime Moyer was pretty good against the Mets today. I am going to talk about that sixth inning where the Mets miss two foul balls that should have been caught and a outfielder’s mistake that lead to another Phillies run, one that they didn’t need anyways to beat the Mets.
Here’s the video link if you want to see it.

The first misplay was David Wright missing a foul ball off the bat of Phillies’ catcher Paul Bako. David thought that fellow shortstop Alex Cora called him off. That was not the case, and he later admitted that it was miscommunication.
Second misplay was Omir Santos missing what should’ve been a catchable foul ball, off the bat of Shane Victorino. No one was calling Omir off, he was by himself. No, he misses catching it. Luckily it wasn’t a fair ball.
Third misplay was a throwing error by Ryan Church, playing center field for the Mets throwing it to Omir Santos to try to get Paul Bako out. Tim McCarver pointed that if the throw was made properly and going in the right direction, then Bako would’ve been out. Instead, Bako scores the fourth Phillies’ run.
At the end, the Phillies beat the Mets 4-1.
I hope you had a happy fourth of July!

Tampa Bay Rays dazzle Johan Santana, Mets.
First off, It’s been a while since I last blogged about the sports baseball world. Now I will discuss my thoughts about the Tampa Bay Rays against the New York Mets game on Saturday.
It looked like a pitchers’ duel between James Shield of the Tampa Bay Rays and Johan Santana of the New York Mets. The Mets took the first game 4-3 behind another stellar outing from Fernando Nieve. Brian Schneider hits a three run home run off Andy Sonnastine to give the Mets a boost to win the first game of the series.
Now about the pitchers’ duel game, it felt like it early, Ryan Church scores in the second inning via Omir Santos’ double off James Shields. It was just the three doubles that helped the Mets score one run.
The Tampa Bay Rays began pecking away Jason Bartlett scores after Gabe Kapler hits a double off Johan Santana in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, Carlos Pena hits his 22nd home run of the year, a solo home run off Johan Santana. Ben Zobrist, hits a home run of his own in the ninth inning off Sean Green going to right field. The Mets had not had one hit, nor baserunner from the 2nd inning to the 9th inning. Carlos Beltran breaks that up with a single, but David Wright is struck out by JP Howell who earned the save and securing the win for James Shields, Johan Santana was the tough luck loser.
What a game that was.
