How many different caps do each MLB team wear?
I have a list of Major
League baseball squads and the amount of baseball caps that are worn today.
This list is for the 2009 MLB season. List is not in alphabetical order. This
list may not be accurate but this is best to my knowledge.
The teams that only have one
baseball cap style
1. Yankees
2. White Sox
3. Rays
4. Cubs
5. Mariners
6. Marlins
7. Giants
8. Dodgers
9. Angels
10. Royals
Teams with two baseball cap
schemes
1. Astros
2. Phillies
3. Pirates
4. Rockies
5. Reds
6. Tigers
7. Diamondbacks
8. Tigers
9. Red Sox
10. Brewers
11. Orioles
Teams with three or more
baseball cap styles
1. Mets
2. Athletics (4)
3. Indians (4)
4. Rangers
5. Twins
6. Braves
7. Nationals
8. Cardinals
9. Blue Jays
To
see the caps go to
mlb.com/shop. I do believe there are about 61 baseball caps total that
are used by all 30 MLB teams combined. By average, there’s around two
different caps worn by each team, however 10 MLB teams only have one
cap style used on field.
Here’s the same list, but
this is from the 2005 season
Teams with only one
baseball cap style
1. Yankees
2. Red Sox
3. White Sox
4. Mariners
5. Angels
6. Giants
7. Marlins
Teams with two baseball cap
schemes
1. Cubs
2. Pirates
3. Diamondbacks
4. Tigers
5. Blue Jays
6. Brewers
7. Braves
8. Phillies
9. Astros
10. Padres
11. Dodgers
Teams wit three baseball
cap schemes
1. Mets
2. Rockies
3. Reds
4. Athletics
5. Indians
6. Nationals
7. Twins
8. Cardinals
9. Rangers
10. Devil Rays
11. Royals
12. Orioles
So what’s different between
2005 and 2009?
1. Dodgers ditched the
silver bill on their alternate cap after 2006.
2. Devil Rays become Rays
after 2007 and adapts to only one cap scheme.
3 Cubs, Orioles ditched
their road caps, Cubs with the blue crown and the red bill and the Orioles with
the all black scheme. The home caps Cubs all blue with red button and Orioles
with orange button, black crown and orange bill are used.
4. Braves have a new road
cap.
5. Athletics and Indians
are the only teams with four different cap schemes
6. Rockies and Reds have not worn their third alternate caps frequently, Rockies with the all purple scheme cap and the Reds with the black cap with
the Red bill.
7. Red Sox have adapted two
red socks logo used for road games.
Do you remember when Tampa Bay’s team were called the Devil Rays?
I didn’t know the Dodgers used to wear these….

I’m just glad the Diamondbacks decided to change their colors.
Today,
the caps are made out of polyester, and not wool. The under visor on
all of the caps as well as the head band are black. Before this change
the caps had a light gray under visor and a white head band.
The
following photo was taken by Andrew Scott of USA Today. The polyester
cap, used now is on the left, while the wool cap is on the right. These
are the home caps of the Oakland Athletics.

I believe the suggested retail price for today’s caps (polyester ones) are about $30 from $25 for the wool ones.
Today’s caps are supposed to do this:
1. Reduce glare in bright areas and in the sun.
2. Be shrink resistant, (this was a problem with the wool caps)
3. The fabric is supposed to absorb moisture, leaving the head cool and ry.
4. The polyester caps dry better than the wool ones.
I have plenty of these laying around my bedroom. I do plan on collecting some more because they are more comfortable to wear.
I bet most of you do own at least a few here.
Update:
I have the following team’s caps.
I have three or more of each team.
New York Mets (all three hat colors that are worn on field)
New York Yankees (two of the three caps have patches on the left side)
Chicago White Sox (two out of three are customized, not worn on field)
I have two of each
Colorado Rockies (all purple, and black cap with purple bill)
Chicago Cubs
Pittsburgh Pirates (I have a black P with a red bill, but this style has been discontinued).
Cleveland Indians (both caps have Chief Wahoo on it)
Oakland Athletics (one is green with yellow A’s and the other is a black cap, with green A’s.)
I have one of each
Los Angeles Dodgers
Florida Marlins
Cincinnati Reds (red cap, black bill used on the road)
St Louis Cardinals (red home cap)
Milwaukee Brewers (blue cap with a MB logo that looks like a glove)
Atlanta Braves (navy blue crown, red bill)
Houston Astros (black cap)
I believe I blogged about my baseball cap collection a month ago so I’ll send you here

The resurging Mets and the stung Yankees
My second day in the border of the US and Canada, and it’s been a fun one looking at nice parks and a small airport in Ogdensburg New York. It really does not get too hot up there, the weather’s really cool and lows are in the upper 50s
Let’s talk about the Rockies at Mets game now.

Last night, not so much offense but Mike Pelfrey was stellar when the bases were loaded twice for the Colorado Rockies. Amazingly, the Rockies never scored the game despite having the bases loaded. The Mets however did score four runs in the game.
The scoring plays.
Colorado Rockies did not score and left 9 runners on base, Absolutely shocking.
Mets did score though.
2nd inning
Jeff Francoeur single brings home Daniel Murphy
3rd inning
Luis Castillo singles to bring home Alex Cora
4th inning
Brian Schneider sac fly brings home Daniel Murphy
8th inning
Daniel Murphy singles to bring home Luis Castillo
Mike Pelfrey pitches six and one thirds innings to get the win. (8-6)
Jason Marquis (hometown boy and Yankee fan) goes six innings and loss the game, giving up three runs. (12-7)
What happened to Jason Marquis’ favorite team?
They lost to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bottom 6th

BJ (Melvin) Upton doubles to bring home Jason Bartlett
Top 9th
Hideki Matsui doubles to bring home Alex Rodriguez.
Who won and lost?
Scott Kazmir wins. (5-6) CC Sabathia loses (10-7)
Scott pitched 7 strong innings, while CC pitched only 5 and 2/3rds innings. CC didn’t have his best stuff, and the Yankees were unusually sloppy in this game. Tonight I think Joba Chamberlain will be the true ace that he’s bound to be and win the game over Matt Garza, Of course the only team the Rays are not allowed to beat are the Yankees. Yankees will win the AL East and the Rays will win the wild card.
As for the Mets, can we please not talk about their injured players. I know people keep labeling the Mets as a team with high potential with the players that are not playing. Let’s talk about the players that are actually playing in a Mets uniform right now. I feel like the injured players are taking more attention than the ones that are actually playing the game and making a bigger difference. Give credit to the Mets that are playing the game, not sitting out due to injury, the players will eventually come back, it takes time. Injuries are a part of the game, but they shouldn’t be the constant talk. Other teams have injured players too, but the fans are not making such a big deal about that. I do not want the Mets’ injuries to be a big deal, even David Wright says “he’s sick and tired of the injured players talk” so let’s put that to bed. This goes to every team that has injury problems.
That’s all I’ll say, I’ll update this with tonight’s scores after they are done, since I’m able to watch both the Mets and Yankees telecasts from up there.
Here’s another game.
The Houston Astros and the Chicago Cubs were playing today.

Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, and Andres Blanco homered.
Randy Wells was the winning pitcher while Mike Hampton who won against the Mets, lost to the Astros today. The Cubs sure had a great hitting and scoring day.
The scoring plays for the Cubs, Astros did not score.
1st
Derrek Lee Sac Fly to bring home Reed Johnson
Aramis Ramirez singles to bring home Ryan Theriot.
Alfonso Soriano homers, also scoring Aramis Ramirez and Milton Bradley.
Koyie Hill singles; scoring is Jeff Baker, reaching on a walk.
2nd
Aramis Ramirez homers.

Derrek Lee doubles to bring home Ryan Theriot
Milton Bradley singles to bring home Derrek Lee

Jake Fox sac flies to bring home Milton Bradley.
8th
Andres Blanco hits a home run.
Jake Fox singles to bring home Micah Hoffpauir.
That’s the 12 run scoring stint for the Cubs.
Thank you for reading.
One more thing, the Mets and Yankees despite their issues will both have successful seasons. Remember, it’s not how your start, it’s how you finish your journey and the Mets and Yankees are bound to have happy endings at the end.
EDIT:
This is tonight’s score from the Yankees at Rays score, I don’t know if it’s the final score though.

As for this matchup.

No score, the game was rained out. oh well.
Good night everyone.
On a trip, Mets win at home, Yanks win at Florida.
Today I am in upstate, New York. Ogdensburg NY to be exact, and that town is right at the border of Canada. I’ll be there for the next four days. I should have some photos up when I’m done from that trop. I was not able to catch the Mets hosting the Rockies last night but I did hear that the Mets beat the Rockies 7-3. This comes on the same day the Mets fired their vice president Tony Bernazard.

Oliver Perez goes five innings but takes a no decision, giving up three runs.
Ubaldo Jimenez goes seven innings, but takes a no decision also, giving up three runs.
Pedro Feliciano wins the game, Juan Rincon loses.
There were four home runs in the game. Here’s the scoring play by each team.
For the Rockies
Troy Tulowitzki hit a two run shot, for the Rockies‘ first two runs in the second inning
Clint Barmes hit a solo home run in the fifth inning
For the Mets
Jeff Francoeur hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Fernando Tatis hit a grand slam to give the Mets the lead at the eighth.
Daniel Murphy and Cory Sullivan each drove in one run in the sixth inning.
The magic in the Mets has returned and they used that to cool off the Rockies at Citi Field. Hopefully they can keep this magical run going. Fernando Tatis was the player of the game with the pinch hit grand slam off Franklin Morales. One of the runs was charged to Juan Rincon so he took the loss instead. I bet those Mets fans are happy that their favorite team returned to NYC and won.

As for the Yankees, they won big last night, against the Rays, that game I saw. The score was 11-4.
Robinson Cano homered and Nick Swisher homered twice. Johnny Damon also homered in the game.
Pat Burrell homered too in the game.
AJ Burnett was great on the mound too, keep up the great work, Yankees!
James Shields wasn’t too good though for the Rays. The Tampa Bay Rays are going to play better offense if they are going to beat the Yankees, because the visiting team has more potential for hitting. The battle of the first baseman Mark Teixiera and Carlos Pena should be exciting in the series.
That is all from Ogdensburg, New York, right at the border of Canada. If you don’t know where that is, look it up on a map. I believe the closest major city is Ottawa, Ontario in Canada.
Josh Willingham pokes fun at Mike Pelfrey as Nationals take series.
Here’s the box score for the Mets vs the Nationals.

Here’s how each team scored.
Bottom 4th
Nick Johnson walks, eventually Ron Belliard flies out to bring Johnson home.
Top 6th.
Angel Pagan hits just passed Nyjer Morgan’s reach, and then sloppy defense allows Pagan to score all the way, it would have been a triple, but he scores.
Bottom 6th.
Adam Dunn doubles, and two batters later, Josh Willingham blasts a 2 run home run off Mike Pelfrey. This is Josh’s 13th home run of the season.
Pelfrey had a quality start but on a losing end. Craig Stammen earns the save while Mike MacDougal saves the game.
Looks like the Nationals are still playing like they are contenders after all. They played like contenders. They’ll have to carry their magic to the Padres, while the Mets limp to the surging Astros who just beat the Cardinals 4-3 on Miguel Tejada’s game winning hit.
Here’s another interesting game.
Orioles versus the Yankees.

Jason Berken loses pitching 6 innings and giving up five runs, including Jorge Posada’s solo shot.
Mariano Rivera earns the save. The Yankees are on a roll and have a two game lead in the AL East thanks to the Red Sox loss to the Rangers. The Yankees are on a six game winning streak since the All Star Break

That’s it for today.
Mets beat up the Nationals, and more USA Softball
The Mets
defeat the Washington Nationals by a score of 5-2, behind Livan Hernandez’s
pitching and Mets timely hitting over the Nationals.
Here are
the scoring innings for each team
Top
first, Mets score two runs. Angel Pagan singles. Luis Castillo sac bunts to
move Pagan to second; Castillo out. Daniel Murphy doubles and Pagan scores.
David Wright fouls out. Jeff Francoeur doubles, and Murphy scores. Jeremy Reed
grounds out to end the inning.
Top
second, Mets score three runs. Alex Cora singles. Brian Schneider grounds out,
as Cora goes to second base. Livan Hernandez grounds out. Angel Pagan singles,
Alex Cora scores, Pagan to second on wild throw. Luis Castillo singles; Pagan
scores and Castillo to second on throw. Daniel Murphy singles, brings home Luis
Castillo for the third run. David Wright lines out to center to end the frame.
Bottom
fourth, Adam Dunn singles. Dunn goes to second on Guzman’s groundout. Austin
Kearns singles, Dunn to third. Willie Harris pops out. Josh Bard singles to
bring home both Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns. Alberto Gonzalez grounds out.
Top
ninth, The outfielder swap for the Mets was well worth it, as Jeff Francoeur
homers to make it 6-2 Mets at Nationals Park. Ryan Church also homered for the
Braves as well that night. The Mets-Braves trade is working out for both teams.
Livan
Hernandez wins pitching seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
JD Martin
pitching for the Nationals loses the game pitching only four innings and giving
up five runs and eight hits.
The Braves beat
the San Francisco Giants by a score of 11 to 3. The Atlanta Braves are
on a offensive explosing as of late. Interestingly enough, it comes on
a start by Tommy Hanson. Chipper Jones and Garret Anderson also homered
for the Braves, off Jonathan Sanchez.

You can actually see the game at ESPN2 tonight at 7pm eastern, 4pm Pacific time if you missed the game or if you want to watch the game again. You can watch it online at ESPN360.com, just look for the game “Australia vs USA World Cup of Softball”.
Team USA has two more torunaments, the Japan Cup and the Pan Am games at Venezuela, I’m not sure if they have TV coverage though. Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman were the best pitchers for Team USA, and Lauren Lappin, Caitlin Lowe and Natasha Watley all came in the clutch. Kaitlin Cochran and Ashley Hansen were also huge for Team USA. Jennie Finch who usually plays pitcher, also played first base. It is usually rare to see a pitcher play a position and vice-versa.
The following players have homered at least once in this tournament for Team USA
Jennie Finch
Natasha Watley
Ashley Hanson
Jenae Leles
Lauren Lappin
Alissa Haber
Andrea Duran
Monica Abbott is the only pitcher with two wins in the tournament, and Stacey Nelson, Katie Burkhart, Cat Osterman, and Jennie Finch each have one win as well. Cat Osterman has the only save in the tournament in the final game as she saved Monica Abbott’s title clinching win.
Here are your final standings.
USA 6-0 wins Gold
AUS 3-3 wins Silver
CAN 4-2 wins Bronze, lost to AUS in tiebreaker game.
JPN 3-3
NED 2-4
ITA 0-6
This was taken from http://www.usasoftball.com/events.asp?uid=4674
Other things in mind, the Rays and
the White Sox. Jeff Niemann is 8-4 versus Clayton Richard 3-3. Evan Longoria
and Carlos Pena have to wake up their bats against him. Jermaine Dye and Paul
Konerko can keep swining their sticks and the White Sox will beat up the Rays.
I predict a big day for the White Sox, but the Rays have other plans. This
should be the game of the week.
Oliver Perez versus John Lannan
play tonight. Ollie needs to play his A-Game and the Mets need to keep on
hitting against Lannan. Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns need to keep hitting and so
will Ryan Zimmerman. It’s too bad that the Nationals are a good team but their
record doesn’t reflect that. That’s all I’ll say for now.
