Team USA wins World Cup in OKC vs Australia
Team USA finally wins the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City versus Team Australia by a final score of 3-1.
Monica Abbott was selected to pitch for Team USA versus Justine Smethurst of Team Australia.
Here are the scoring plays of the game.
Lauren Lappin set the tone with a solo home run in the game in the third inning. Ashley Hansen doubled.
Natasha Watley lined out for the first out.
Caitlin Lowe grounded out, moving Hansen to third base.
Alyssa Haber singles to bring home Hansen. Haber steals second base.
Kaitlin Cochran was intentionally walked. Andrea Duran singles, and Alyssa Haber scores, Cochran attempts to score at home as well but was tagged out.
The USA scores all three runs, and that’s all what they needed.
In the top of the fourth inning, Stacey Porter hits a solo home run off Monica Abbott, with one out.
That’s all the scoring Team Australia would have. Team USA would not allow any more scoring.
Cat Osterman comes in the sixth inning and saves the game. She pitches 1 and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts and one walk, to earn the save.
Monica Abbott pitches 5 and one-third innings giving up four hits, one earned run (on a Stacey Porter home run) and 11 strikeouts.Justine Smethurst settles for the loss pitching only three innings, charged with three runs, and gave up the home run to Lauren Lappin. She gave up five hits and struck out three.
Game time was 1:57, meaning 1 hour and 57 minutes long, game temperature was at 91 degrees.

USA Softball goes 5-0 in World Cup in OKC, await opponent in Final game (Australia)
Team USA softball is 5 wins and no losses in the tournament, in which at least two of them ended early due to a mercy rule set up. The game ends in 3 innings with a lead of 20 runs or more, 15 runs or more after 4 innings, and 7 runs or more after 5 innings. This is done to avoid “running the score” I believe the same thing was used in the World Baseball classic earlier in the year.

Here’ are my tips as of how the USA can beat Australia
1. Keep on hitting and running, get on base early and put pressure on the defense.
2. Whoever is pitching, pitch well, and don’t get behind the batters in the counts.
3. Continue on playing stellar defense.
4. The other pitchers must be ready when called upon in certain situations.
5. Remain focused and don’t let any distractions bother you.
That is all.
Canada Cup fastpitch championship
This game should have been
on TV last night; however that was not the case though. The championship game
between Team USA v Team Canada turned out to be a nail biter. It was Cat
Osterman’s turn to pitch for USA. Danielle Lawrie started for Canada (earlier in the year, she lead the University of Washington Huskies to the NCAA softball title over the Florida
Gators)
The game was scoreless
until the 5th inning when Ashley Charters grounds out while bringing home
Chelsea Bramett. Chelsea was pinch running for Andrea Duran who hit a
triple off Lawrie. That’s all the USA scoring in the inning.
In the top of the 6th
inning, Osterman walks Jennifer Salling and scored on a fielder’s choice by
Jennifer Yee. Yee also scored on a fielder’s choice by Sheena Lawrick. No hits
but two runs for Team Canada.
Bottom of the 7th,
(Usually softball games end after 7 innings), Natasha Watley scores on a
sacrifice fly by Kaitlin Cochran. The game is tied at 2-2. Jennie Finch playing
first base, hits a single, and Caitlin Lowe scores the game winning hit.

This is Andrea Duran who is a third baseman for Team USA. She also played softball for UCLA. She is not playing professionally just yet. She bats and throws right handed.
Next player is Lauren Lappin, who is a catcher for Team USA. On occasion, you’d probably see her playing on the infield, most likely third base. She played softball for Stanford University. She’s not playing in the NPF either, but any professional team looking for a good catcher/infielder should go pick this player to play for their team.
Okay, time to move away from talking about Team USA for a bit
Here’s Danielle Lawrie, the MVP of the NCAA Women’s College World Series. She pitched in her senior season at University of Washington. She lead the Huskies to victory against Stacey Nelson and the University of Florida Gators. She’s actually nominated for an ESPY this year for best female college athlete, which is quite interesting. Last year, she pitched for Team Canada in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
