The Truth…

I’m going to admit some things.

 

 

I’m not a die-hard fan of any MLB team. I don’t think I ever was anyway. The Mets are my primary team to cheer for, however they are not participating in this World Series Torunament. I don’t get angry or upset if the team I’m cheering on loses the game, whether I see it on television, on the internet, listening to the game on the radio, or in the stands. I don’t know how you fans have such emotions after a game is over, me I don’t generally. I did have it as big New York Knicks Basketball fan, but not baseball. I just treat this game “as is”. The Mets had a sub-par season and I’m not disappointed by that. The Mets lost to the Cardinals in the 2006 World Series and I was not saddened by their loss.

 

 

 

 

I was more of a Yankees Fan when the Yankees were doing great from 1998-2003. My favorite Yankees were Alfonso Soriano and Jose Contreras. Enrique Wilson was also another player I liked a lot. Bernie Willams I like the most. I stopped rooting for the Yankees on a regular day basis, when Alfonso Soriano left the team. When Jose Contreras was traded to the White Sox, I was no longer rooting for the Yankees as much. Contreas to me was the “best potential pitcher” in Yankees Franchise history to me. When the Yankees didn’t sign Bernie Willams, I was feeling a bit down about that too. The Mets had younger players rising up as superstars, like David Wright and Jose Reyes so I thought I’d follow them more. I had satellite television subscription from Dish Network, and it didn’t have the YES network, so I couldn’t follow the Yankees as much, but the Mets games were on a lot so I watch those.

Alfonso Soriano should’ve stayed as the Yankees Second baseman.

 

 

 

My bets for this World Series were the Yankees meeting the Dodgers, in the final round.

 

Why do I wish the Yankees win the AL Pennant?

 

I want Joe Giradi to win a World Series as a manager. I would like Alex Rodriguez to obtain his first championship ring, as well as CC Sabathia, and Mark Teixiera. If I were Donnie Mattingly, (hitting coach for Dodgers and #23 retired by Yankees) I would let Mark Teixiera wear #23 because that’s his favorite number. Don Mattingly was Mark Teixera’s favorite Yankees player. I would like another ticker-tape parade in NYC.

 

 

Why did I root for the Dodgers to win the NL Pennant Flag?

 

The Dodgers orginated from Brooklyn, New York, where I’m living. If the Dodgers were still here in Brooklyn, I’d have a 20-25 minute commute from my home to Ebbets Field to see the Dodgers. Now if I want to see the Dodgers, I’d have to see them as the road team when they are hosted by the Mets (Citi Field) or the Yankees (Yankee Stadium). If I have to go see the Dodgers play at home, I have to take a five hour plane ride, rent a hotel room in Los Angeles and find my way to commute to Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers are my second favorite team in the National League.

The Chicago Cubs are my favorite team from the NL Central. I would like to go visit Chicago, to watch the Cubs play, (and break this 100+ World Series Drought so the Cubs fans can stop whining about it)

The team that’s starting to take my interests away from the Dodgers are the San Diego Padres. A few baseball fan friends of mine say the Padres have a nice looking logo and the only road team not to wear grey jerseys and pants. I try to look for a Padres cap, but I’m having no luck. Modells, and Foot Locker, don’t have it. The regular sports stores near my house of residence don’t have it.

So far the Phillies and Padres caps are next on my wish list in my baseball cap collection. As you have seen, I enjoy collecting baseball caps, not just the Mets and Yankees ones.

So far as of ballparks I’ve been to:

Yankee Stadium (1923)

Yankee Stadium (2009)

Citi Field

Shea Stadium.

 

Other ballparks I would like to go visit.

 

Petco Park in San Diego, CA (It’s a classy town)

Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles CA (I get to see the team that orginated at Brooklyn. Almost no chance of a rain delay.)

Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia PA (A three hour bus ride I don’t mind. I get to meet the Phanatic too.)

Fenway Park in Boston MA (I want to sit on the top of the big wall)

Wrigley Field in Chicago IL (Break the drought, Cubbies)

US Cellular Field in Chicago IL (I get to watch fireworks for every White Sox homerun)

Comerica Park in Detroit MI (Nice looking wall of fame over there)

Busch Stadium (2006 version) in St Louis. (I get to look at the skyline and that great arch)

Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX (I’d like to see that train rolling)

Turner Field in Atlanta GA (Tomahawk chop, anyone)

AT&T Park in San Francisco CA (Let the splash begin)

Coors Field in Denver CO (I wish the humidor wasn’t used)

Safeco Field in Seattle WA (I can hear the railroad)

PNC Park in Pittsburgh PA (The best view of any skyline from a baseball venue, what more can you ask for?)

Rangers Ballpark in Arlington TX (How hot does it get over here?)

With the exception of Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field, and Fenway Park, all these venues I would like to visit were built from the early 1990s and this decade. These ballparks look more modern, more fan friendly, and look great. I hope someday I can visit thse venues, in my road trips to those cities.

 

As for the American League Championship series, let the best team win. Yankees lead 3 games to 2.

 

I can’t wait to get my World Series gear, perferably a new baseball cap with a World Series patch on it.

It’s September

It’s been a few days since I last posted something about baseball and softball, that was last month. Today we’re in September.  I’m going to talk about a few things I’ve done since the last post (of course which is about improving pro softball)

 

I have a new game for the Nintendo Wii, called “Wii Sports Resort”

If you remember “Wii Sports” did come with the Nintendo Wii when it was first purchased. This is the sequal to “Wii Sports” and I find this quite interesting. The Sports that are played are archery, basketball, biking, canoeing, golf, jet skiing, skydiving, sword fighting, table tennis, water skiing, and flying disc games.

It takes quite a while (well most games do anyway) since the controls aren’t that easy as first. My favorite part of the game is basketball.  

 

If you want to play the game, you might need the Wii Motion Plus which is an additional device that goes on the bottom of the Wii Remote. The Nintendo Wii’s controls should be more accurate in this way.  

I believe it cost around $20-25 depending on retailers.

This is the Chicago Cubs home cap. This cap is actually the only one still in use by the Cubs. The Road Cap with the red bill is not used anymore. In essence, I would like one thing to happen to the Cubs, and that is break this 100 year plus drought. It’s too bad the Cubs fans have to deal with the jokes and the puns being made, of the team that has failed to even win a NL pennant since 1945.

Anyways I hope to find other interesting baseball caps, whether it be the Mets, Cubs, Yankees, Dodgers, etc. The caps do vary by retailer so I have to look harder. Any ideas of what new cap I should look to take?

 

Anyways, that’s all for this post. I don’t want to do any more game recaps for a while. Plus my birthday is on Labor Day too which is on a Monday, September 7.

The resurging Mets and the stung Yankees

My second day in the border of the US and Canada, and it’s been a fun one looking at nice parks and a small airport in Ogdensburg New York. It really does not get too hot up there, the weather’s really cool and lows are in the upper 50s

Let’s talk about the Rockies at Mets game now.

Last night, not so much offense but Mike Pelfrey was stellar when the bases were loaded twice for the Colorado Rockies. Amazingly, the Rockies never scored the game despite having the bases loaded. The Mets however did score four runs in the game.

Who won and lost?
Scott Kazmir wins. (5-6) CC Sabathia loses (10-7)
Scott pitched 7 strong innings, while CC pitched only 5 and 2/3rds innings. CC didn’t have his best stuff, and the Yankees were unusually sloppy in this game. Tonight I think Joba Chamberlain will be the true ace that he’s bound to be and win the game over Matt Garza, Of course the only team the Rays are not allowed to beat are the Yankees. Yankees will win the AL East and the Rays will win the wild card.

As for the Mets, can we please not talk about their injured players. I know people keep labeling the Mets as a team with high potential with the players that are not playing. Let’s talk about the players that are actually playing in a Mets uniform right now. I feel like the injured players are taking more attention than the ones that are actually playing the game and making a bigger difference. Give credit to the Mets that are playing the game, not sitting out due to injury, the players will eventually come back, it takes time. Injuries are a part of the game, but they shouldn’t be the constant talk. Other teams have injured players too, but the fans are not making such a big deal about that. I do not want the Mets’ injuries to be a big deal, even David Wright says “he’s sick and tired of the injured players talk” so let’s put that to bed. This goes to every team that has injury problems.

That’s all I’ll say, I’ll update this with tonight’s scores after they are done, since I’m able to watch both the Mets and Yankees telecasts from up there.

Mets go for it at Pittsburgh amongst other things…

1. The New York Mets will try to win at least once today, same matchup, Mike Pelfrey for the Mets and Ross Ohlendorf for the Pirates. Game starts around noon time. Let’s hope the Mets bats get going in this series, it has in the first game when Livan Hernandez pitched well but an uncharastic issue occured in the Mets bullpen.

2. Randy Johnson will attempt again to win his 300th career game with the San Francisco Giants against the Washington Nationals in a two game day. He will oppose Jordan Zimmermann. The second game of the double header, the Giants will send out Matt Cain to take on Ross Detwiler.

3. The Chicago Cubs will take on the Atlanta Braves and this game is available nationally on MLB Network, so any fans wanting some national attention worthy MLB action, tune in to that game. Of course if you regularly see Cubs or Braves games on televison, you should stick to your teams’ brocasting feeds instead due to blackout restrictions. MLB Network will show another game instead. Matchup today is Carlos Zambrano (who is coming off a five game suspension for his actions in a game hosting the Pirates for arguing a safe call.) Jair Jurrjens will take the mound for the Atlanta Braves

4. The Yankees are coming off from a loss to the Texas Rangers last night, so they should be looking forward to improving from their mistakes, heck they had about a streak of errorless games before this series so this should be no problem to them. Pitching matchup is Brandon McCarthy for the Rangers taking on Chien-Ming Wang for the Yankees who’s looking forward to making a better impression in the starting rotation this time around since having rehab assignments in the bullpen.

5. The last matchup I’ll talk about for today, Phillies vs Dodgers. The Phillies have won six straight games thanks to an awesome pitching effort from JA Happ outdueling Chris R Young of the Padres. Ryan Howard blasts a two-run home run of the inning in last night’s game. The score last night was 5-1 in favor of the Philadelphia Phillies over the San Deigo Padres. What a sweep! Next opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cole Hamels vs Clayton Kershaw. Two young lefties going at one another. The Dodgers are really good at home this season, even though Manny Ramirez is halfway through his fifty game suspension. Last night the Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 1-0 behing strong pitching from Chad Billingsley. Casey Blake’s sac fly was the only run producing play of the game.

Orlando Magic take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals tonight on ABC
Game one is at Los Angeles at Staples Center. Who do you think will win this series?
